Butterfly Pavilion
This guy makes me laugh! The rest of the crickets were all layered all over the log in the glass case; the rest were huddled together, covering every inch of the small symblance of outdoors and the only piece of nature they will ever experience And then there was this guy, the lone explorer that stared back at all of us; the only one to look back as though we were in the glass case. Was he thinking what we were all saying, "oooh," "gross," "ech," "I itch just looking at him."
What made him climb up the wall and sit by himself?
Do Disney, Pixar and all of those other movie companies have it right.? Is he thinking and telling his friends in the back information... "hey, frank, this lady is headed over here, when you see her lean down to get a good look jump at the glass. Susy the roach got her good a few minutes ago." and then maybe they have little parties at night, once the people have all gone home. I am imaging a mix of Ants, Night at the Museum and Free Willy, oh and a little Lady and the Tramp romance.
Bride at Lake
Here is another example of how all art is subjective. I really enjoyed taking the couple's portraits at this lake. It was a perfect day, a photographers ideal overcast kind of lighting. I did some couple shots in this same spot and mixed in an umbrella for a few and then I did this with the bride. I find it to be a serene, private, moment for the bride; a time of reflection, looking to the future.
I mention this photo in the discussion that art/photography is subjective due to the mixed reactions this photo received at a recent Bridal Expo where I had it on display. The print, a 13 x 19, had great proportion and really opened up the image. The responses ranged from "Oh my gosh that is beautiful, I just love this," to "I don't like that, it is such a sad picture (which I might add, included a visible facial expression of disgust)."
And that my dear readers is why it VERY important to get to know your subjects and what they desire in their images!!!
I Love Lucy Cake
Custom Colorization is huge in the industry right now. I've been able to play around with it a bit and have found the reactions to be quite varied. I have had the brides that request it up front, knowing that they enjoy the look and style. I have also had couples that see the images and immediately request that they not be included in the events images. Just another example of how all art is subjective!!!
